YMTP² Guidelines for Yoga & Mindfulness Practice Sessions

Please review the following as a guideline to structure your hour-long yoga and mindfulness practice. Our goal is to provide a robust schedule of classes that cohort participants can attend to satisfy their certification requirements. We also want to support your growth and development as a yoga and mindfulness teacher! Your practices should be consistently either weekly or bi-weekly and take into consideration participants’ busy schedules. Week day classes should be held primarily early morning or after work hours so as many people as possible are able to access classes. We are striving to offer classes every day of the week. Each Yoga & Mindfulness practice sessions should include a breath practice, yoga, and a mindfulness component, and be taught in a manner consistent with the YMTP² mission, vision, and philosophy. (see YMTP² Practice Menu & YMTP² Curriculum Manual)

ROOM & DEVICE SET-UP:
In addition, the following technical conditions should be reviewed before your live presentation:

Ensure you have adequate internet speed to effectively stream your practice and that you have access to DOE Zoom.

Find a spot where it’s as quiet as possible, with no loud noises, traffic, etc. in the background; mute other sounds (other phones in home, television, etc.) Sound is clear and easy to hear.

Make sure the space is clean and uncluttered with a background that is clear and not busy.

Remove any visible logos and double-check to be sure

Position your yoga mat sideways.

Computer/Camera is eye level for where I will spend most of my experience.

The lighting in your room/home (natural and/or artificial) to maximize brightness while eliminating shadows/dark spaces. The light is on my face, coming from behind the camera (not behind me).

If possible set up your device in front of a window so you can capture natural light.

If not, make sure the lighting is bright and flattering. If space doesn’t have natural light, the next best thing is to find lamps with white bulbs to illuminate the shot. Position light in front of you or off to the side.

Use a computer with a high quality camera to present your practice (there is less clarity when streaming through a phone).
