Yoga & Mindfulness Wellness Guide, 2024-2025

Created by the Yoga & Mindfulness Teacher Preparation Program (YMTP²)

The Yoga & Mindfulness Wellness Guide, created by the Yoga & Mindfulness Teacher Preparation Program (YMTP²) is a tool that you can use to help ensure that yoga and mindfulness are an active and authentic part of your school community. Meaningful integration of yoga and mindfulness into your day has the ability to transform the school experience in a vast array of positive ways. These outcomes can impact students, staff and families alike.

May
Peace

The mindful breath practice Waterfall Breath that supports May’s theme of peace embraces the peaceful flow inherent in water and nature. As students move through Waterfall Breath, they have choice and agency in how they choose to move and flow in unison with their breath as they imitate a waterfall.

The accompanying yoga posture, Reverse Warrior is a practice that is a natural extension of the Warrior Flow. Reverse or Peaceful Warrior embraces the strength and integrity present in peace. The softer shape maintains its strong and supported foundation, and moves like water in a peaceful dance between warrior postures. These practices integrated into the school day have the capacity to inspire the cultivation of internal peace, and support students in navigating and managing powerful emotions.

If in our daily life we can smile, if we can be peaceful and happy, not only we, but everyone will profit from it. This is the most basic kind of peace work.
