YMTP² Teacher
Sasha Arnesen
Sasha developed a keen curiosity and love of yoga in her personal life, and has practiced yoga and meditation helping her manage stress and to feel grounded. Sasha graduated from the Yoga and Mindfulness Teacher Preparation Program and she has pursued a 95-hour certificate as a children's yoga teacher with YMTP² partner Bent on Learning. Sasha taught in-person before COVID-19, and currently teaches virtual yoga and mindfulness classes to families, school staff, and students. Sasha has brought yoga and mindfulness with in-person classes for 2nd and 3rd grade students at P.S. 193 Gil Hodges in Midwood, Brooklyn, and to high school students in temporary housing at the Brooklyn North Borough Office.
In her current role as a School Mental Health Specialist from the NYC DOHMH, Sasha facilitates trauma-informed group work for students to mitigate the impact of trauma and address grief and loss, as well as provides mental health education for caregivers and school staff to address students' mental health needs. As a School Mental Health Specialist, and Yoga and Mindfulness Teacher, Sasha shares with families, school staff, and students that yoga and mindfulness practices are tools that are accessible for all, helping us explore our body, thoughts, and feelings, through poses and breath exercises. Sasha shares her belief with school communities that yoga and mindfulness bring greater awareness of ourselves to meet challenges, and find positive ways to feel better in a compassionate-loving way. Given circumstances during the pandemic, Sasha is grateful to share yoga and mindfulness practices in her work as we navigate the new normal.

Sasha Arnesen’s Yoga & Mindfulness Practices
During the summer of 2020, Sasha taught yoga and mindfulness virtually to 6th and 7th grade students and below you can have a glimpse on how the yoga classes led by Sasha have impacted their life:
"Since I have been doing meditations before bed, it helps me get a better nights sleep. In school I can do different kinds of breath when I am stressed about a project or test. Yoga has also impacted my life because I am more relaxed and calm. It has also helped me to focus by tuning into my inner self." - Caroline
"Yoga has really given me a lot of time to think and to relax. Before I started doing yoga I had some trouble going to bed, but now I go to bed without a problem...Between the stretching poses and the sun salutes, I have really had a lot of fun. My favorite pose is the crow pose because it is super challenging and fun! Thank you!" -Alysse
